Pixel Fold: Renders and price leaks are here!

After quite the rumors of the upcoming Pixel Fold from the beginning of the year, we finally have the first renders of the device along with its supposed price point and launch date.

Today, Front Page Tech published design mockups for Google’s third iteration, code-named Felix. According to 9TO5Google’s analysis, this is probably Google’s third try at folding screens after first attempting to develop Passport and Pipit before stopping.

Speculated features of Pixel Fold

The Pixel Fold is similar to the Oppo Find N in that it is wider than the narrower, more pocket-friendly Samsung Galaxy Z Fold that most of the world is familiar with.

When the device is closed, the cover display has an under-display camera (said to be 9.5MP), and when viewed from the front, the frame has two antenna lines that are clearly visible on the top, right side, and bottom. On the back, there is a raised hump (or mesa) that resembles the left pill of the Pixel 7 Pro and is followed by a circular cutout. At the very left, there are a few tiny holes that are (probably) for the flash and microphone cutout. Below that, a glass back with the “G” emblem is visible in the colors of white and black.

Instead of an under-display camera, the inner display chooses top and bottom bezels that extend the whole width. The bezel camera is 9.5 MP as well. There are five tiny holes at the top and bottom, near the mmWave antenna, and a USB-C port on the right-side bottom edge.

Today’s rumors also claim that the handset is weighty due to the metal frames and that the fingerprint sensor is built into the side lock button with the volume rocker below. Finally, the hinge would stand out for being rather simple, if these renderings are accurate.

Rumored Price and Availability

The “Pixel Fold” will cost $1,799 and go on sale in May alongside the Pixel Tablet, according to FPT. The name hasn’t been decided upon, although we’ve heard “Notepad” as a potential contender for an early edition. This would correspond to a Google I/O announcement in 2023.
