Google Play system updates for July!

The Google Play System will be updated in July 2022 with the complete “Google Wallet” redesign, as well as certain new types of “multi-device experiences.”

While most of Android is open source and widely changeable, Google Play Services enable many of our phones’ most essential functions. That main app works in tandem with the Play Store and the monthly “Google Play system upgrades” for Android. Google consistently provides patch notes for this trio (also known as the “Google System”) once a month.

The quickest approach to see if Google Play Services on your phone needs to be updated is to follow a direct link to the app’s Play Store listing and update from there, if available. Tap your avatar in the corner, then “Settings,” to update the Play Store. You’ll see an option to “Update Play Store” under the “About” section. Meanwhile, you can find Google Play system updates in the Settings app, under About phone > Android version > Google Play system update.

The first set of July’s Play System update notes was issued a little later than normal this month, probably due to the first Monday being a holiday. The previously announced rebranding of Google Pay to “Google Wallet,” as well as the previously revealed Material You makeover, are included in the first wave.

Another piece describes how Android developers would be able to create “seamless multi-device experiences.” This most likely refers to the Nearby Share APIs revealed at Google I/O. Furthermore, it appears that Google’s July changes will change the “Data & Privacy” option in account settings.
