Pixel Watch: To come with WiFi and LTE Models!

We kept a close eye on Google’s FCC filings for new gadgets that could be evidence of their first watch in the weeks leading up to its announcement. Those files never arrived, and it now appears that this is due to the Pixel Watch not being registered under Google’s FCC ID. Compal Electronics, on the other hand, has constructed and submitted papers to get the Pixel Watch ready for release in the United States.

It’s very uncommon for a large manufacturer to create gadgets for businesses before submitting the paperwork. Quanta is another company that has previously prepared and filed FCC filings for Google. The sole fascinating aspect of Compal’s Pixel Watch is that they also produced an Apple Watch at one point.

The Pixel Watch model numbers GWT9R (link), GBZ4S (link), and GQF4C were filed on May 11 (via 9to5Google) (link). G943M (link) is a fourth and related model number that is thought to be the watch’s charger.

These files don’t reveal much useful information, except for the fact that there is a Bluetooth model (GQF4C) and LTE variants (GWT9R, GBZ4S). Model GWT9R has the most LTE bands, which also happen to align neatly with accessible LTE networks in the United States, therefore I’m going to presume it’s the LTE model for here. Only LTE bands 5, 7, and 26 are supported by the GBZ4S.

We receive 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth, as well as NFC, with the Bluetooth/WiFi variant GQF4C. We already knew Google will push Google Pay on the Pixel Watch, so NFC isn’t a shock.

Finally, there are two features of the G943M charger worth mentioning. The first is that it will use USB-C to connect to a power source. That means you’ll be able to charge the watch using a computer or other power adaptor you already have. Second, according to FCC documents, it can wirelessly charge up to 15 watts. Who knows whether Google will allow that, but for a smartwatch, it would be pretty speedy.
