Google files for Trademark on “Pixel Watch”!

With the first Made by Google smartwatch said to be on the way, a new trademark for “Pixel Watch” has given the device a more concrete moniker.

For several years, there have been reports that Google intends to release a first-party Wear OS-powered smartwatch, with the most recent rumor cycle claiming that one may finally be on the verge of release. We’ve already seen renderings and watch faces for this device, which has yet to be given an official name. Google’s smartwatch has been dubbed “Pixel Rohan” in recent leaks, with “Rohan” being the company’s internal codename.

While it’s been practically a foregone conclusion that Google’s first-party Wear OS gadget will be called the Pixel Watch, we haven’t gotten any confirmation of that until today. Google has applied to trademark the phrase “Pixel Watch” in new documents filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark covers smartwatches and smartwatch accessories (to paraphrase Hank Hill).

PIXEL WATCH™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of smartwatches; cases adapted for holding smartwatches; wearable computers in the nature of smartwatches; smartwatch straps; smartwatch bands.

Next month’s Google I/O developer conference, which has previously hosted debuts such as the Pixel 3a and Nest Hub Max, is the most likely place for Google to reveal hardware. However, there are still a few more regulatory hurdles between the Pixel Watch and its introduction, since the smartwatch has yet to appear in FCC or Bluetooth SIG listings.
