The aesthetic of Android 12 has been drastically improved, and one area where this is noticeable is with home screen widgets. We’re getting an early look at a new Google Weather widget that will be coming to Android 12 as Google attempts to overhaul its library.
In the fall, new Pixel phones normally come with unique software features that are eventually made available on previous Google phones. Material You weather widgets powered by the Google app will be available for the first time on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
As discovered by 9to5Google, the new Google Weather widget on Android 12 is quite basic, with only an icon to signify current conditions, a large piece of text displaying the current temperature, and the high/low temperatures displayed lower on the widget. Finally, the widget’s current location is displayed at the top. When Android 11 is released, this widget should function on all Android smartphones.
The Google app is working on two Material You widgets, as evidenced in Pixel 6 marketing and from what we’ve enabled. The first is a simple rounded square that displays the current temperature, weather condition, high/low, and city. The slanted pill with large temperature digits and condition icon is the most visually appealing widget. Both are Dynamic Color themed, and the shape is extremely unusual. In advertising, Google frequently mixes it with the Material You clock.
Before a showing, the two weather widgets will check to see if your device is a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro, according to the current Google app beta. Other Pixel phones will eventually be supported by Google, but not at first.
