There has been a pattern of Google to discontinue older previous generation devices in the Pixel series with the launch of the latest Pixel handset. A similar pattern is expected with the upcoming launch of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro along with the previous launch of Pixel 5a, due which Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 are expected to be discontinued soon.
In a post by Digital Trends a Google spokesperson was quoted saying: “With our current forecasts, we expect Google Store in the U.S. to sell out of Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 in the coming weeks following the launch of the Pixel 5a (5G). The Pixel 5a (5G) is a great option for customers and delivers valuable hardware upgrades compared to the Pixel 4a 5G, all at a lower price point.”
Furthermore, according to the post, the store in the US will continue selling the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 till they are completely out of stock. This same strategy should be applied to the global market too which is officially selling the Pixel devices.
Moreover, the Pixel 4a will continue being sold as a cheaper entry price point for the Google Pixel series. For now, we wait for the official launch of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro along with any new details that might be released of these devices.
