Pixel 5a

Pixel 5a launched today, with a similar design and specifications as of Pixel 4a 5G.

Google, Pixel

Google has finally launched the new Pixel 5a. This device has similar specifications as that of Pixel 4a 5G. There are slight changes on the new device, but some new addition and upgrades are inside the device already.

Pixel 5a is here – Lets see what’s changed and what’s not.

The biggest difference between the Pixel 5a and Pixel 4a 5G is the display. This year, the Pixel 5a comes with a 120Hz AMOLED panel at a slightly larger 6.34-inch dimension. This is the first noticeable upgrade on the device. Plus for the protection, Google has used Gorilla Glass 6 on the display to make sure your display can handle scratches and drops pretty well.

Secondly, this is for the first time that Google has given an IP67 rating on their A-series device. And that too with a headphone jack. Apple and Samsung, any more excuses?

This year, you will also see a larger battery on the Pixel 5a – 4,680 mAh and still has that 18W fast charger inside the box. Out of the box, you can use the device on any of the major 5G carriers in the USA. This time around though, you will not see a mmWave variant, given that mmWave range is next to impossible to get. But you will still get the sub-6GHz band support. Moreover, the device is missing the C-band 5G frequencies which Verizon and AT&T will use by the end of the year to improve the failing 5G network. Google does say that the device will get software support for the same, but cannot be confirmed as to how much time it can take to implement this.

For the specifications, it is the same as P{ixel 4a. Same Snapdragon 765G SoC, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and no SD card slot. The main camera remains a 12.2MP sensor with 16MP ultra-wide. The front-facing camera is also the same – 8MP. Other things that remain with this new device are the same ol’ but trusty headphone jack, back-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner, and an 18W charger, which is the last time you see in a Pixel box. From Pixel 6 and later you have to buy your own charger. All thanks to the stupid trend set by a stupid and money-hungry “eco-friendly” company.

Moreover, with the Pixel, you get three years of bloat-free and clean Android OS upgrades, unlike some OEMs. You can buy one for you from Google Store and Google Fi only, and no major carriers will be allowed to sell them. As of now, the new Pixel 5a is up for pre-order for a price of $449 from the Google Store.
