It has been confirmed that Tiktok is now testing the Stories feature in the app. This feature was first reported by Matt Navarra (@MattNavarra) via posts on Twitter. According to the company, the Tiktok Stories is a new addition to the already existing features like Duets, Live, and Stitch.
Furthermore, it appears the Stories features work in the same way as seen various on other social platforms i.e: it disappears after 24 hours, people who view are displayed and the comments made on the Stories can be read. The feature is view by tapping on the user’s Avatar or swiping left from the main feed and does not in any way affect the home screen view.
The Stories feature is in no way a new concept and has already been seen in platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Netflix, YouTube, the Xbox app all copying Snapchat’s original feature launched in 2013. It was recently seen implemented in Twitter dubbed as “Fleets” in an unsuccessful attempt and has since been stopped.
The post by The Verge reports a Tiktok spokesperson stating “We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience, Currently we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community.” They also confirmed the testing of this feature in an email to The Verge. Although the company hasn’t revealed information about the testings, or the launching date. But a number of users have already been seen using the feature.
Even though the Stories feature has a great opportunity to further the interaction between the creator and the viewer, depending on how well it is implemented will decide whether it will be the next best feature or a one-time thing.
