Recently, there was plenty of talk regarding the system and only producing 30 FPS. That’s not necessarily the case as Valve’s designer has recently clarified the recent 30 FPS target fiasco. The goal is to see Steam Deck run games at 30 FPS.
The 30 FPS target refers to the floor of what we consider playable in our performance testing. Games tested and shown have consistently met and exceeded that bar so far. There will also be an optional built-in FPS limiter to fine-tune vs. battery life.
Additionally, it also makes that the upcoming Steam Deck will feature an FPS limiter. For instance, we’ll get a better look at how some of the more heavy-hitting video game titles will handle the portable gaming PC handheld.
