OnePlus was being criticized for not providing three years of major updates to the flagships. But after the merge, OnePlus’s stance changed as they finally announced that they will start providing major updates for three years for the flagships only.
However, there are only some sets of flagships eligible for the three-year update policy. Devices from OnePlus 8 and later are eligible for the update policy right now. They are entitled to receive four years of security updates as well. However, the devices released prior to OnePlus 8 will follow the old policy. In this new policy, even the budget segment in the flagship line will receive major OS updates for three years straight.
For the devices such as Nord, will continue to support the old update policy, unfortunately. Moreover, OnePlus is merging the codebase for their OxygenOS and ColorOS without the users noticing any changes.
