Telegram, which is arguably the best messaging app, has gotten even better over the weekend. It now has support for group video calling, screen sharing, and even more. Telegram says that the new group video call feature is bringing “voice chats to a whole new level, ready for online classes, business meetings, and family gatherings.”
In order to start a group video call, users can head over to a group and tap on the camera icon. Once the call starts, tapping on any participants’ video makes it fullscreen and you can pin their video as well.
Telegram says that video is currently only for the first 30 participants that join meanwhile the audio-only option is also limited. However, the limit will increase further “as voice chats take on streaming games, live events, and more.” The screen sharing option is also pretty easy to bring up, it is an option inside the three-dot menu.
Noise suppression is also now improved in voice chats and there is now even a new toggle to turn it on or off. Telegram is also making better use of the extra space on tablets and on PCs with more display options for video calls. Users can tap to open the side panel and see a split-screen video of the video grid.
Voice chats on the desktop also open in a separate window now so that users can type and talk without having to minimize anything. Telegram is also bringing selective screen sharing to desktops as well, which makes it easy to broadcast just a single window instead of the whole screen.
In addition to all of this, there are now animated backgrounds, message sending animations, a new menu button for bots, new ways to import stickers, reminders to help keep your account safe, and more. For all the details, check out the Telegram blog.
