Samsung has just announced a new 50MP sensor, using its ISOCELL JN1 sensor. In a press event, Samsung announces that JN1 is based on ISOCELL 2.0, which Samsung claims to capture more light in a small sensor. The company also claims that it has increased the light sensitivity by 16% approx.
The new sensor comes with four 0.64μm pixels with four to one pixel binning, creating a shot of 12.5MP with 0.1.28μm terapixels, which is huge to be honest. With just a size of 1/2.76 inches in size, the sensor is meant not only for the rear facing camera to reduce the bump, but also can be used as front-facing camera.
The firm says that the sensor is right now undergoing mass production, but have to see when the devices get to use this sensor in the coming days.
