Fossil is a renowned name when it comes to fitness trackers and smartwatches. Google announced that it is merging its WearOS platform with Samsung’s Tizen to launch an even more unified platform. But Fossil says that its existing smartwatch range won’t be getting the new update.
In an interview with CNET, executives from Fossil Greg McKelvey and Steve Prokup said that the company’s existing Wear OS smartwatches will not be upgraded to the new Wear platform. Instead of updating, the company will launch a separate watch with improved hardware so that it can take full advantage of the new WearOS platform.
McKelvey says that Fossil’s Gen 6 watches would get similar features to those made by Google and Samsung. There are no updates from other WearOS watchmakers upon whether or not they will be updating their own range to the new platform.
