Galaxy XCover Pro is one of the rugged devices made by Samsung. It is just a normal Galaxy Smartphone but with extra physical protection and military-grade design. It does have IP ratings and is usable with gloves. As of now, normal customers do not purchase any rugged devices, or they do, but do not come out in the light. But thanks to Walmart’s orders of 740,000 units from Samsung, it is a win-win situation for both companies.
Galaxy XCover Pro becomes Walmart’s de facto device.
As of now, Walmart workers used to use two devices – a walkie talkie, and a bar code reader. Soon this became cumbersome for the employees to carry two devices every time. So Walmart decided to move a few things. Being a software development company themselves, they do have the software power, but lacks decent hardware for getting the work done. So to tackle this situation, Walmart contacted Samsung for the solution, and thus selecting the Galaxy XCover Pro the best device for the job.
For the walkie talkie replacement, the XCover Pro has programmable buttons, which can be converted into push-to-talk button. For the bar code thing, Samsung is working on their bar-code scanning technology to make it more accurate and perfect for Walmart. This feature can be used for inventory management. Also one more issue comes to light for the company – deploy new features and updates for all these 740,000 devices at once. For this, Samsung Knox come for the rescue. Admins can use the Knox to deploy new updates to all the devices at once.
The deal came into light in Spring 2020. However, the devices are yet to shipped to Walmart, which will take some time , but as soon as August or September. Also, Walmart will allow the employees to use the XCovers as their personal smartphone as well. For separating the user space, Knox will used to create private and company profiles on the same device.
