No cross platform backup support was perhaps the biggest problem users faced while switching to new devices. Fortunately enough, WhatsApp is finally working to fix this. This essentially means that you will now be able to transfer your chats between Android and iOS devices.
According to data from WABetaInfo, a future update will allow for chat history migration whether you’re using an iOS or Android device. As of now, there are some third party software that allows you to do this. But they are not officially supported by WhatsApp and violate the app’s Terms of Service.
Before performing the migration, you need to update to the latest version of WhatsApp on both the platforms so that there are no compatibility issues. The reason why this wasn’t a thing already is because on Android, the data is stored on Google Drive whereas in the case of iOS, it’s on iCloud. Hopefully, the feature will be prove to be a boon for people who regularly switch between the two platforms and need to get their backups right.
