LG has finally made a decision – leave the mobile phone market for good. And they have started with the process already. However, things comes down to the existing devices. Will LG update the old devices? Or these abandoned devices will never get any major or minor OS update. Well, That is not going to happen anytime soon, as LG has decided to give Android 11 and/or Android 12 for some selected devices.
Android 11 for certain LG devices is confirmed, status of Android 12 remains uncertain.
Although LG promises to roll out Android 11 for some of the devices, however, they didn’t confirm anything about the rollout of Android 12 after launch. Which remains uncertain as of now.
The work on Android 12 is going on and most probably the latest flagships will get the update eventually. But this all depends on the region and on Google as well. Security updates will continue. But it may take longer than expected now. With LG’s mobile phone business is going to shut, they have to decide on the software factor before closing on July 31.
As of now, the Velvet series, K-series( K52 and K52), and G8 series are set to receive the update for Android 11 this year. As per the Germany Support page, the Velvet 5G will receive the update this month itself. Whereas the rest of the devices will not get an update as soon as Q3 2021. Moreover, the service centers will continue to be in business, until and unless the stocks of repair parts are last. The firm might entertain coupons for free repairs. Other accessories will be available for sale.
LG is a South Korean company, started in the year 1958 under the name Goldstar. Later in 1995, they rebranded themselves as LG Electronics. After exiting the smartphone market, they will continue to make televisons and other home appliances.
