Google has started rolling out Gmail Chat service for all the users. Previously, the feature was available only for Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) users starting August last year. After a course of 8 months, Google is finally rolling out the feature for mainstream users.
Gmail Chat is hidden by default.
By default, the feature is disabled in the app. If you want to use the feature, you need to dive into the settings of the app. When inside the settings, tap on your email account and enable “Chats (early access). As the name says, the feature is in early access, that is the feature might have a thing or two that needs to be fixed. Due to which Google decided to keep it disabled by default.
Activating Chat option, also activate Rooms as well. As the name suggests, it lets you join Rooms and create them as well. The feature is currently rolling out and is in an early phase, so you might encounter some nasty bugs midway through your use. So if you want to disable it, then apply the same method above and deactivate it, And then wait for Google to launch the feature officially.
