OnePlus is working on its next mid-range device, the OnePlus Nord 2, and the device is all set to launch in Q2 2021, that is in between April-June. This time around, OnePlus isn’t going with Qualcomm, instead, they going to use MediaTeK Dimensity 1200 SoC.
OnePlus Nord 2 – Jump from Qualcomm to MediaTek.
This is for the first time that OnePlus is skipping Qualcomm in favor of MediaTek. What can be the reason? Specifications may be? Let’s see the specification of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200.
Dimensity 1200 comes with a single Cortex-A78 core which can clock up to 3.0GHz. There are three additional Cortex-A78 with clock speed up to 2.6GHz. And the rest four are Cortex-A55 at 2.0GHz, which are the de-facto cores for power-efficiency. For graphics, the SoC will feature Mali-G77 with nine cores in total, and all-band 5G connectivity, with 5G dual-sim standby, a feature missing in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon as of now.
OnePlus Nord was a hit in the market like India, where people want everything for less. Well sort of, unless you really know what hardware is better for what price. But that is just a personal opinion. Things can be different.
Can Dimensity 1200 SoC be a worthy upgrade from Snapdragon 765G? Or OnePlus is making a grave mistake?
