Oppo is working on a new handset with a unique concept, the Oppo X 2021 which has a rollable display. Oppo announced this future technology at the conference OPPO INNO DAY 2020 held yesterday. Along with this was the unveiling of several new technologies including “Full-path Color Management System” and Oppo AR Glass 2021.
The rollable display is a 6.7-inch panel which can roll out to a 7.4-inch display when required. According to Li Xuezheng, vice president of BOE, this display is an OLED flexible rollable screen. It has a seamless transition and a “zero crease” panel. Looks like BOE is behind the development of this technology. BOE has also provided the know-how to Oppo, for zonal frame stacking so the rolling and stretching look as natural as possible.
But apart from the panel, everything else remains the work of Oppo. Be it the dual motors that retract and extend the panel, or how the UI changes according to the format. other sources also say Oppo’s final goal is to make the display stretch manually. this will allow users to stretch the screen as per their need. But for now, the Oppo X 2021 will only have two screen options – 6.7” and7.4”.
