So basically Samsung is now working their ass off on their Exynos lineup, after tremendous backlash from fans. This backlash came from the Exynos 990 Galaxy S20 series, which performed worse than Snapdragon variants. Even in the mid-range segment, you will see such kind of stuff as well. Samsung also has a history to repeat the same old processors back to back in their mid-range devices. For example Exynos 7870 for J-series, and Exynos 9611 for most M-series and some A-series. But now they are working on another mid-range processor, the Exynos 981, which has recently spotted on the Bluetooth SIG certification website.
The Exynos 981 will come just after Samsung announces the Exynos 1080 SoC as their top-tier mid-range processor. This time, they are going with the ARM specified core, instead of their own Mongoose core. Moreover, Samsung introduced the Galaxy A51 before even the Exynos 980 was launched. Exynos 980 is still better than in 9611. However, the 980 was equipped on the 5G variants of A51 and A71.
On the other hand, Bluetooth SIG doesn’t reveal much of the information about the 981. This only shows the details of the Bluetooth support version here. The Bluetooth version here will be Bluetooth 5.2.
More information about the processor is yet to come. This might happen most probably the next year.
Stay tuned for more details on the topic down the line!
