Apple has just announced the iPhone 12 lineup that contains 4 phones – the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The theme for today’s event was ‘Hi, Speed” and Apple did not disappoint.
Let’s take a look at each of these devices and overview what Apple announced today.
iPhone 12 – the iPhone most people will buy

The iPhone 12 is the device most people are going to buy. It’s the ‘main’ iPhone. The successor to the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11 from last year, the iPhone 12 has got the same 6.1-inch display size. But it now has an OLED display instead of the LCD one.
The screen has a peak brightness of 1200 nits and supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10, and HLG. Apple is calling the new glass ‘Ceramic Shield’ that improves durability.
Cameras
The iPhone 12 has got a main 12-megapixel f/1.6 aperture camera – the fastest on any iPhone yet. The second one is a 12 MP ultrawide camera. Apple boasted a lot about using computational photography. It also said that Night Mode has been improved, and now works on the FaceTime camera as well.
MagSafe

Apple is also bringing back the MagSafe branding, this time to the iPhone. MagSafe was a magnetically attaching charging mechanism for the MacBook in 2014. Apple discontinued it later though. But MagSafe returns on the iPhone, and brings a bunch of accessories with it, including the new wireless charger.
Mini
The iPhone 12 Mini has got everything that the iPhone 12 has, but features a small size of 5.4-inches. This is actually smaller than the recently launched iPhone SE 2nd Generation.
The iPhone 12 Mini starts at $699 and the iPhone 12 at $799. Pre-orders start this Friday and sale will begin starting October 23. Storage options include 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.
iPhone 12 Pro – Overkill?

Both the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max feature a larger 6.1 inch and 6.7 inch respectively. The Pro models also have LiDAR, something we have seen on the iPad Pro. Apple is using LiDAR for making auto-focus faster, even during night times.
Pro Cameras
Apple has made significant advancements in the camera department this year. Both the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max have got three cameras on the back – 12 MP wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide. The wide-angle lens now has a ƒ/1.6 aperture and the 52mm telephoto lens now offers 4x optical zoom.
The camera on the iPhone 12 Pro Max is different, with the telephoto lens being a 65mm one with 2.5x optical zoom and the wide angle one with a f/1.6 apeture and a new OIS system.
Apple ProRAW
Apple will finally let people take control of the photos that are shot on the iPhone with Apple ProRAW. The new iPhone Pro models will offer existing computational photography benefits like Deep Fusion and Smart HDR along with the flexibility of RAW photos.
The new Pro models also have support for shooting directly in Dolby Vision HDR and also editing them directly within the Photos app.
The iPhone 12 Pro starts at $999 and the Pro Max at $1099. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB while color options include gray, stainless steel, gold, and a new blue. And of course, all the iPhones support 5G.
