When it comes to iOS 14, there are all kinds of tips and tricks you’ll be able to make use of. They’re things we’ve never seen in the company’s devices before, and some familiar faces. Let’s run through them.
Find the Perfect Emoji
Something iOS users have been struggling with is finding the emoji they were looking for. This wasn’t a struggle for Android users, sadly. The wait is finally over – iOS 14 makes things easier. All you have to do is open the emoji keyboard like before, then head to the search bar, and type in what you’re looking for. Terms related to it would make it pop up as well.
Watch Videos in PictureMode
Something the iPad was making use of was Picture-in-Picture mode. It’s been around for a while, and it’s finally available on iPhones. You don’t have to look for this feature to find it. You may be watching a video when you decide to switch to another app. When you do so, the video would shrink, and you’ll be able to multi-task.
What’s great about it is that the shrunken video can be moved across the screen. That’s not all – you can hide it too. You do this by taking it to the edge of your screen. This would only leave the audio of your video playing.
Unfortunately, not all applications support Picture in Picture mode. Before you get disappointed, it’s only a matter of time before they optimize themselves.
You won’t be able to access the feature through the YouTube app. At first, you could have accessed PiP through Safari. You just entered the YouTube site, watch a video in full-screen and leave. But now, they’ve blocked this feature, unless you pay for Premium.
Although many find the feature useful, you may not. You can disable it through your settings. Go to General, Picture in Picture, and then disable it.
Have a Default Browser
This may not seem that big of a deal to Android users, but Apple is finally giving its customers control of their browsers and emails. What’s even better is that it’s only these two for now. As applications update for iOS 14, you will be able to choose more default options.
So, how do you make a browser or email your default choice? By heading to your iPad/iPhone’s settings. Once you’ve scrolled to the end, you’ll have to choose the mail app and browser you’re interested in. When selected, you’ll see the Default Browser/Email App option pop up. As iOS 14 just rolled out, not all internet browsers and emails have been updated yet. The option would only show if they have.
Make FaceTimes Better
This phone trick is not exclusive to iOS 14. We saw it last year in the iOS 13 beta. However, it was not made permanent when the update was finally released, like Swipe typing. So, what is it? It’s your device’s eye-contact feature. It would make it look like you’re talking directly to your loved one, by making it seem like you’re looking straight at the camera. This will take place even if you’re looking down, towards its screen.
The feature can be super handy if you’re doing something else while speaking.
The Use Of App Libraries
One of the best tricks of the new OS is App Libraries. They are drawers that let you pile the apps on your device’s homepage. When you open your library, you’ll see all the applications you’ve grouped.
To make the feature work, you’ll have to tap your home screen to activate edit mode. You’ll then have to click on the page indicator and click the home-page panel you want to get rid of. They’ll be transported to the library when done.
When it comes to Apple devices, many people have shunned them for not being customizable for years. Although the company has worked on this over iPad and iPhone generations, they gave the world the new iOS 14. The update is easily one of the best their devices have seen.
When it comes to chatting or messaging, being able to find the emoji you’re looking for is a great feature. Even though it seems minor, it helps with conversations and is a luxury Apple lovers can now enjoy. Along with it, being able to utilize PiP is amazing too. You’ll be able to multitask since you can move the shrunken video anywhere you want.
If you know anything about the company, it’s that they support their older devices for a very long time. Even if you have the iPhone 6S, which was released in 2015, you’ll be able to upgrade it to the new OS. So, are you excited to take the leap?
