Yes, Facebook has began merging Instagram and Messenger to a single app. But just not like you have to use Messenger for Instagram. Only the messaging part is being replaced as of now.
If you are a long time Instragram user, you might already have used DMs. However, now you have to use Messenger to send DMs to each other. This news comes from The Verge, where many writers got a new update stating the apps are being merged, both Android and iOS. As of now the DM icon has changed to Messenger icon.
“Facebook appears to flipping the switch on integrating the chat systems for Instagram and Messenger. On Friday evening, several editors at The Verge across the country — on both iOS and Android devices — noticed an update screen popped up in Instagram’s mobile app with the message “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” with a list of features including a “new colorful look for your chats,” more emoji reactions, swipe-to-reply, and the big one: “chat with friends who use Facebook.”
This new update, although not stated the version, is the first step from Facebook to fully integrate its services. It seems the update is a server side update, so only a few users are receiving the update as of now.
