Its 2020 and its been a year since smartphone manufacturers started pushing high refresh rate displays on their smartphones. However, this should be considered that most of them are on high-end smartphones with some like OnePlus is an exception. Samsung started providing the higher refresh rate display with the Galaxy S20 series, but none of them had dynamic switching. This will change as it’s rumored that Samsung is going to provide a dynamic refresh rate on Galaxy Note 20.
With S20, Samsung didn’t utilize the higher refresh rate properly. However, it seems that Samsung is going to do that same mistake this time, though partially. It is rumored that atleast the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will get a dynamic switching refresh rate this time. However, do note that this is an adaptive refresh rate not a variable refresh rate.
As per the leaks, the smartphone will only able to switch between the 60Hz and 120Hz. On the other hand, the variable refresh rate switches between different refresh rates between any higher and lower supported values. You might also see the WQHD + 120Hz mode as well in the near future.
The Galaxy Note 20 series will be launched in Samsung Unpacked event which is scheduled for the August 5th, that is the very next month. It is also possible that we will see several different hardwares in the first-time online launch event by Samsung.
