TikTok’s data handling has been a major concern for the US government since a few years. ByteDance handles all the TikTok Data, and as expected, by the Chinese Government. As per the lawmakers, ByteDance is been pressurized to hand over the data to the CCP.
On the other hand, to counter the allegations made by US government, a TikTok spokesperson said:
TikTok is led by an American CEO, with hundreds of employees and key leaders across safety, security, product, and public policy here in the U.S. We have no higher priority than promoting a safe and secure app experience for our users. We have never provided user data to the Chinese government, nor would we do so if asked.
A few days back, Indian Government has banned 59 apps which originated from China. This list includes TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser, popular Shein app and many others. As per the Indian Government, these apps are “engaged in activities prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India.”
