LG has quietly launched its new concept phone, the LG Velvet before the official launch date. The official launch date of the smartphone was May 7th, however, LG decided to launch it ahead of time.
LG Velvet – Specifications
Let’s first see what this new concept device is providing out of the box. The LG Velvet will come with a 6.8-inch Cinema FullVision display, which will have the U-shaped notch, and will again support the Dual Screen mode.
As stated before, LG is using the Snapdragon 765 5G SoC here instead of the high-end Snapdragon 865 for cutting the cost for both manufacturers and consumers. Although, LG didn’t specify about the front-facing camera, the rear facing camera will feature a 48MP main camera, an 8MP Ultra-wide and a 5MP depth camera. The RAM and storage configurations are still unknown. However, given that the smartphone will be a premium device, expect RAM no less than 8GB and storage no less than 128GB.
Since most of the specifications are yet unknown, you can expect to get more specifications details on the official launch date, in a livestream event.
As for the connectivity, as the SoC mentions a 5G, that means the smartphone is going to host 5G features out of the box.
A new look – LG Velvet

The LG Velvet will get a new design, in comparison to LG’s traditional V-series or G-Series design. The new design will bring the curved edge display, just like we used to see in Galaxy S-series, until recently.
The screen here is a larger 6.8-inch display with 20.5:9 aspect ratio, alongside the FullVision display, gives you that brighter quality of view with sharper details. It is rumored that it is going to be an OLED, which should be true, given that no one really gives an LCD panel at this price point. However, a lack of a physical fingerprint scanner can redirect the path to the fact that it is an OLED panel.
Unlike Galaxy S20 series, LG is not going with a squared camera module. Instead they are placing each camera individually in a descending droplet fashion.
You will get a slim form factor with the new Velvet.
The unusual but gorgeous camera setup.

A new camera design awaits here. LG, is not going with the trend to add a specific camera module with a thick bump. Instead they are going with a simple and a gorgeous design. The “Waterfall” design imitates the rain drops falling.
Unlike its previous flagship V60, the camera is pretty standard except the main camera, which has a 13MP ultra-wide camera.
It is unclear if LG is going with a Samsung ISOCELL sensor or Sony IMX sensor for the camera. Interestingly, LG Velvet will come with a Voice Out Focus feature which will separate the background audio from ambient noises.
Dual Display – not leaving the world yet.

The LG Velvet will also support Dual Screen, as usual from the higher V-series or G-series smartphones. However, this time, it will also support Stylus. But you have to buy the accessories separately.
Rumors says that an app will convert your handwritten notes to digital notes, so the stylus support is an important feat here.
Battery

LG is including a 4,300mAh battery in this smartphone. As per LG, their low-power consumption algorithms will make sure the smartphone doesn’t’ consume battery unnecessarily.
Pricing and Availability
The LG Velvet has been launched in South Korea, with the sales starting from May 15th. However, nothing about international availability is mentioned. The colors that will be available are: Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset.
The pricing isn’t known yet. Everything about the smartphone will be announced in the livestream event on May 7th.
