There used to be a joke that the only reason why people use internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge was to download other browsers. While it may still partly hold true but if recent numbers are to be believed then Microsoft is making a comeback in the browser space.
As per numbers released by NetMarketShare, Microsoft Edge is now the second most popular internet browser in the world.
Microsoft Edge has ‘edged’ Mozilla Firefox into third place and now has 7.59% market share. Firefox in the third spot has 7.19% market share. At number four is also Microsoft browser -Internet Explorer 11.
Google Chrome remains the undisputed number one internet browser with a whopping 68.50% market share. These numbers are for the month of march in 2020. Opera, Yandex and UC Browser were some of the other internet browsers in the top 10.
As for Microsoft, Edge recently became a Chromium-based browser and with it has got quite a lot of extensions that are available in the Chrome web store. While it’s not like Google Chrome but has become compatible wit more devices.
Compared to Google and Chrome, Microsoft is still a long way behind but it certainly has beaten Mozilla Firefox to become the second most used internet browser in the world.
