It was 2016 when Google first launched the Pixel series. The series was all about flagship devices that were running on stock android. Things changed a bit in 2019 when Google decided to release mid-range Pixel devices such as Pixel 3a and 3a XL at Google I/O 2019. A few weeks back on December 28, popular leakster @OnLeaks and 91Mobiles posted leaked renders of upcoming Pixel 4a, solidifying the rumor of mid-range Pixels again this year.
Recently XDA-Developers came across some code-names from Twitter user @akes29 which he believes to be the codenames of upcoming Pixel devices. They investigated the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), the latest version of several Google App and also the latest Pixel 4 firmware dumps. After looking around, they found out three new device code-names and the SoC platform they are based on.
- Sunfish – This is based on the sm7150 platform which is the code-name for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730 SoC. It does not possess a 5G modem. There are two development branches for this board. One for Android 10 and another for Android 11.
- Redfin – This is based on the sm7250 platform which is the code-name for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 SoC. This is probably being developed by an ODM called FIH Mobile. It is being developed with Android 10.
- Bramble – This is based on the sm7250 platform which is the code-name for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 SoC. There are two development branches for this board. One for Android 10 and another for Android 11. But it is not being developed by any ODM.
