Xiaomi took everyone by surprise when they announced Mi Mix Alpha back in September last year. Mix series is usually used by the company to release cutting edge products. Xiaomi promised a wrap-around display this time with a huge bump in camera specifications. Xiaomi claims that they have achieved a screen to body ratio of 180% with this new design. The device has a 2.15 mm thick bezels on top and bottom with an aerospace-grade alloy frame to protect the device. Also, the camera strip at the back is ceramic with sapphire glass to protect the lenses.
At first, Mi Mix Alpha was set to arrive in December in limited quantities at a starting price of $2,800/€2,500. The phone did make a brief appearance on Tmall and Xiaomi’s online store as a placeholder but it did not have any pre-order or purchase option available. However, Xiaomi has now confirmed that the launch is being delayed and there is no release date for now. They also stated in the launch event of Mix Alpha that they are facing technical difficulties wrapping the display around the device.
