Google has finally launched the YouTube Music Charts in India. The charts feature what’s trending and track songs, artists and music videos as well.
India has long been one of the most unique and vibrant music markets in the world. Nowhere is that more visible than on YouTube. We look forward to celebrating the success of the artists, songs and music videos that are resonating with Indian music fans.
YouTube Music updates top songs, artists, and music weekly on Monday at 12.30 IST. The categories are calculated by combining all official versions, including “the official music video, official song used in user-generated content and lyric videos.”
Google says that this “YouTube’s first dedicated external signal highlighting videos which were instantly popular upon release.”
This is funny because YouTube didn’t even credit Indian rapper Badshah when he broke a record even Taylor Swift couldn’t touch when his music video “Paagal” got 75 Million views within 24 hours of its release.
“Since introducing a new way to premiere videos last year, the Google-owned site has trumpeted the setting of every new record, from Ariana Grande’s “thank u next” to Blackpink’s “Kill This Love,” culminating in BTS’s “Boy With Luv.” It even said Swift’s “ME!” set a record for “most-viewed female solo debut.” But Badshah’s feat elicited no response from the world’s most popular online video hub.– Livemint
Due to such controversies, Google announced that it was no longer including ad-generated views in 24-hour record debuts and Music Charts.
YouTube Music Charts is available in YouTube Music under Top 100 most played songs and top 100 music videos globally and locally and top 30 Trending charts.
