After Facebook promised us with an upcoming revamped design and a dark mode supposed to come earlier this year, it seems like the company is finally taking initiative and testing it out.
A computer science student Jane Manchun Wong discovered the new feature while digging into the code. (via 9to5Mac)
Wong found the code in the Android app. She wrote about the same on her blog as well.
I came across this unreleased Dark Mode in Facebook’s mobile app for Android by looking into the code underneath, which indicates Facebook has recently started implementing the long-awaited Dark Mode into their mobile app.
This Dark Mode appears to be in an early stage of development, understandably. For now, only certain parts of the app has been reworked to support the Dark Mode. For example, dark text displaying on a dark background, vice versa.
Facebook first implemented dark mode in its Messenger app. The company then also announced that its app and web versions will also get the same.
Theres no timeline of when will Facebook implement the dark mode. But we’ll make sure to update whenever it rolls out.
