Google Assistant can now read and reply to third party texting apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram on Android. Before, it could only read SMS texts. All you have to do now is to say “read my messages’ and it will read your recent messages from any third-party app you want.
Before using this feature, you have to make sure that you grant notification access to the Google app. After Assistant is done reading out the message, it is marked as read and you are given the option to dictate a reply.
However, the Assistant cannot read audio messages. It will just say, “the message just contains an audio attachment.”
It is great to have this feature on Android. On the iOS side of things, Siri has the ability for a long time.
