Apple Watch Series 4 has a built-in ECG Scanner and a 30% Larger Display

At the ongoing Apple event at Steve Jobs’ Amphitheatre in Cupertino, Apple just announced the Apple Watch Series 4. The Series 4 comes with a larger display and rounded edges. The display is 30% bigger than the Series 3, and helps WatchOS 5 show more information on the display.

Electrocardiography On The Go!

The most surprising feature of the Apple Watch Series 4 is the built in ECG scanner. This makes it the first over-the-counter ECG machine. To use the feature, just open the app, put your finger in the digital crown. The digital crown also gives haptic feedback on rotation.

New Processor

Apple has also update the internals of the latest watch. The watch has a new dual-core 64-bit S4 processor, custom designed by the company’s silicon team to improve performance. Apple claims performance will be two times better than previous models. Other hardware improvements include an updated accelerometer and gyroscope.

The new hardware on the Apple watch helps it to detect a fall and automatically trigger emergency services if you are immobile for more than a minute. Apple Watch Series 4 will also screen heart rhythm for irregularities that appear to be atrial fibrillation.

For the record, Apple has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US to allow its Watch to be used as a medical device.

Updated WatchOS Interface

Apple has updated the WatchOS user interface. It has been redesigned to take advantage of the bigger display and show more information in apps like photos, maps, and calendar.
Even though the display is large, the overall volume of the Apple Watch Series 4 is less than the Series 3 model, and even thinner than it.

Apple has also improved the speaker on the Apple Watch Series 4 so it’s now louder thanks to a redesign. The rear of the watch is now black ceramic with a sapphire crystal display at the front.

Unfortunately, Apple has not changed the battery life of the device. It will remain at up to 18 hours of battery life per day, which in regular practice should last for two days of average use.

Apple Watch Series 4

There are two new finishes available – stainless and gold stainless. Apple Watch Series 4 is available to preorder from Friday. It is priced from $399 for the GPS version and $499 for the LTE models. Apple is also continuing to sell the Apple Watch Series 3 priced from $279.
