AT&T Debuts New Virtual Reality Experience at the New York International Auto Show
Updated from the 2015 experience, It Can Wait simulation puts the viewer face-to-face with the real dangers of distracted driving and those personally affected
WHAT:
AT&T* research found nearly 9-in-10 people admit to using their smartphone while driving.** People are doing much more than just texting from behind the wheel. They’re checking email, accessing social media and even snapping photos.
Distracted driving is never OK. So, AT&T is debuting a new virtual reality experience to the New York International Auto Show, where participants will come face-to-face with the very real dangers of distracted driving and interact with a memorial wall, a wall of keys representing lives lost and a wall made to look like crushed car parts. The launch kicks off a 200-stop nationwide tour throughout 2018.
WHY:
When you’re behind the wheel, everything can change in the blink of an eye. A post, a selfie, a text, a scroll, an email—one look is all it takes. We’re bringing the issue center stage. We’re immersing a visually driven generation in a striking 3D experience to help raise awareness and ultimately save lives.
The experience is part of the AT&T It Can Wait campaign, which reminds drivers that distracted driving is never OK. You’re never alone on the road. The campaign began with a focus on not texting and driving. We’ve expanded it to the broader dangers of using your smartphone behind the wheel.
Since its launch in 2010, the campaign has:
- Helped grow awareness of the dangers of smartphone distracted driving to nearly all of those surveyed.**
- Inspired more than 23 million pledges to not drive distracted.
- Collaborated with AT&T data scientists on research that shows how statewide anti-texting laws impact the rate of texting while driving.
