Cortana Spotify integration now available for all Windows 10 PC users

Cortana recently lost its Groove integration which led to no music ID service, as a replacement Microsoft seems to be working with Spotify to bring back the features. Now Cortana can control music playback using Spotify according to your query.

/u/farhazmsft who appears to be a Microsoft developer works on Cortana announced this feature in a reddit post. Earlier this was only limited to Harman Kardon Invoke but now all PCs running Windows 10 which are on RS2+ builds will have an option in Cortana to add Spotify. Users need to add Spotify in music section of Cortana’s notebook.

Needless to say you’ll need Spotify app installed on your PC for it to work. Any account free/premium would work as long as you’re in a supported country.

Cortana Spotify commands include:

  • Play Christmas music on Spotify
  • Play my discover weekly playlist on Spotify
  • Play <Artist/Track/Title/Genre/Mood> on <AppName>
  • Play some Drake
  • Play focus music
  • Play rock music
  • Play my tracks
  • Hey Cortana, what’s playing?

This should now be working for all users irrespective of whether they’re Windows Insider or not. If you want to try it out install Spotify from Microsoft Store or Spotify.
