After 4K and HDR already going mainstream, LG took a step ahead and launched an 88 inch 8K OLED TV which is both the largest and has the highest resolution panel ever created.
Previous OLED panels were ‘only’ 4K and came in 77 inches. These were manufactured by LG, Sony and Panasonic, they all source their large OLED panels from LG Display. We currently have just the specs as we expect LG to launch the TV officially at CES 2018.
LG’s biggest competitor Samsung Display has already shifted its focus from OLED TVs to QLED TVs. That means, LG is the sole producer of large size OLED Display.
LG Display has made huge investments to ensure that it continues to have the upper hand by ramping up OLED production capacity in a market dominated by Samsung.
Part of this includes the construction of a new OLED plant outside of Korea for the first time — in China’s Guangzhou city, no less, and this was recently approved by the South Korean government.
