WhatsApp recently introduced WhatsApp Stories, its alternative to text status similar to Snapchat. This change led to a whiplash in WhatsApp community, with many users demanding back original text based status system.
When approached by TechCrunch in view of this issue, they replied:
“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the ‘About’ section in profile settings. Now, the update will appear next to profile names anytime you view contacts, such as when creating a new chat or looking at Group info. At the same time, we’re continuing to build on the new Status feature that gives people fun and engaging ways to share photos, videos and GIFs with their friends and family throughout their day.”
For many using Snapchat-like photos stories was not an exciting feature, and they would rather stick to old text style status. To address this, WhatsApp has started rolling out updates with old text status feature included to Android devices. iPhones will be receiving updates next week, but the time of rollout of Windows counterpart is not yet known.
Post update users will be able to set text status like old times, while the option to share Stories will still be there. We’ll keep our readers posted on further developments.
