Four generations of Microsoft’s Surface tablet are existing now and the company will probably keep working on the Surface row. Similar to their phones strategy they are going to release one new tablet per year maybe even together with a Surface Book.
While the Surface Pro 4 had some hardware issues when it has been launched, Microsoft had fixed almost all of them with firmware updates rolled out from time to time. Now it seems like the company is concentrating on their older devices from the Surface row again. On the 21st of July Microsoft has rolled out a new firmware update for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
One of the most significant changes coming with this firmware update is probably the improved battery life. With the latest firmware the battery life has been improved once the Surface Pro 3 goes into sleep mode. This way it will save some energy while you are not using your Surface tablet.
Furthermore there has been added improved keyboard stability, improved UEFI compatibility, better compatibility with the fingerprint sensor on a type cover 4 and better compatibility with the Surface Pen. That’s quite a list of improvements compared to the age of the Surface Pro 3 which has been announced over a year ago.
Additionally Microsoft has finally updated the compatibility with the Realtek Sound driver which brought some issues for a few users while upgrading to newer builds of Windows 10. At the Microsoft Support Website the company has listed a full update history for all of their device, including the Surface Pro 3.
So here is the full changelog of the latest July Firmware update for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3:
- Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware
v3.9.850.0 increases battery life during sleep mode and improves keyboard stability.
- Surface Pro UEFI
