Blu-ray Player app is the first universal Windows app for Xbox One

Microsoft will make it's first universal Windows app available for a selected number of Xbox Preview Users very soon, if this goes well more apps will come.

Xbox One Blu-ray Player

Same as for Windows there is a Preview program for Xbox Users as well. In this Preview program you are able to install pre-release software and get the ability to test some services before they are available to the public. However, unfortunately it is not that easy to join the Xbox Preview program like for Windows Insiders where you have simply to sign up as a Windows Insider.

Microsoft often gets criticized for not caring too much about feedback submitted by users. The company introduced the Windows Insiders Program in order to collect feedback on new versions of Windows 10 and implement requested features in the operating system. Now the company has chosen 20.000 Xbox Preview users which will be eligible to download the first universal Windows app ever released for the Xbox console. This group of users has been selected depending on their activity in the Xbox Preview program. The app is expected to be released for these users in the upcoming days.

Blu-ray Player is the first universal Windows app which has been released for the Xbox One console so far. This makes it a sort of pilot project. If everything goes well during the test process with the Blu-Ray Player app Microsoft will probably released additional apps for its console as well.

Bringing universal apps to the Xbox One is another very important step for Microsoft in order to make their operating system truly universal. Until today we have heard about Microsofts plans to release universal apps for its Xbox Console, however, now we are finally able to get a first look on those.
