Yesterday Microsoft released build 14342 of Windows 10 which doesn't support additional language packs, here are some instructions how to get them.

Yesterday Microsoft has released another build for Windows Insiders on the Fast Ring. This Build is available for Desktop PC’s, a new Build for mobile devices is expected for next week. Build 14342 has brought a pretty long list of new features. Microsoft is currently preparing the Redstone aka Anniversary update and therefore we will see new features with almost any new Build the company is about to release.

Whats’s new in this Build

As a small reminder, I have listed all the new features of this Build below. For further details head over to the Windows Blog dedicated to the new features of the latest Insider Build for the Fast Ring. There you can have a look at the Known Issues and what has been fixed with this Build as well.

  • Updates for Extensions in Microsoft Edge
  • Real-time web notifications in Microsoft Edge
  • Swipe navigation in Microsoft Edge
  • Bash on Ubuntu on Windows Improvements
  • Skype UWP Preview Update
  • Updated Windows Ink Workspace icon
  • Updated visuals for User Account Control dialog
  • Middle-click for dismiss in Action Center
  • Apps for websites
  • Feedback Hub improvements

As you may have noticed, this is quite a list of new features for this build. Gabriel Aul has also added a long list of fixes which are coming with this Build. However, unfortunately build 14342 does have one annoying bug which you might know too well from Builds of Windows 10 Mobile already. If you have done a clean installation with a German version of Windows 10 for example and you are actually a native English speak, this Build will display things in German again and you will not be able to download language packs via the Control Panel, the Settings App or Windows Update.

This also what happened on my end when I upgraded my PC to the latest Build. I was doing some research and found a few language packs, however, these have not been compatible with the current build but only with earlier ones. Unfortunately also Microsoft is not offering them anymore as a download on their website. But thanks to the Pastebin user RG_ADGUARD we can download and install language packs which are compatible with this Build of Windows 10.

How to install language packs

If you download them, you will get a .cab file, so here are four easy steps how you can install them:

  1. right-click on ‘Start’ and choose ‘Run’ in the context menu. Install Language Pack
  2. Once you have opened Run, type in ‘lpksetup.exe’ and click enter to start the setup wizard for language packs. Install Language Pack 2
  3. In the set up wizard click on install display languages.
  4. On the next screen of the set up wizard, click on browse and choose your downloaded .cab file. Then click on next and wait for the installation to be finished. Install Language Pack 4
  5. Download Language Packs for Windows 10 Build 10.0.14342.1000
