The WhatsApp Web is available since a while now and it is pretty comfortable to use. The web app is now working on all major browsers including Microsoft Edge so that it can be used on all almost all platforms without the need to install another browser for the job. Though there are some things which a web app can not do but can be only done by a native desktop application.
There is for example the newly introduced notification center which you can use in Windows 10 and where Facebook, Twitter and all the other apps which you have allowed to work in background are showing you their notifications. A web app can give you a notification as well but only through the browser, you will not be able to see these in the build in notification center. At least not in Windows and therefore a desktop application is pretty nice.
The Desktop Application works pretty much the same like you know it from the web app. You can download and install the application, afterwards you have to open WhatsApp on your phone and scan the QR Code which is displayed. This is a security step in order to give the application access to your account. Although the application is a universal Windows app or anything it has integrated the latest Windows features and runs just fine.
The desktop application for OS X works with OS X 10.9 and higher so be sure to check if you have the latest update installed on your Mac if the application is not working. Feel free to drop me a comment below with your opinion on the WhatsApp Desktop app and if you think that there are still some important features missing in the application. Stay tuned for more Microsoft related news in the future.
