The annual BUILD conference held by Microsoft in San Francisco is almost over agin for this season and like every year the leaves users with big excitement about the future of Windows. I have to say that, at this years Build announcements was not really a wow effect at first glance but if you have another look at the Windows 10 Anniversary Update there is indeed a something to get excited about. Microsoft has announced the update at the BUILD conference and revealed that this will be the next big update for Windows 10. We have heard from this update in several leaks already where it was always declared as Redstone or lately also as Redstone 1, since this will be the first of many big updates for Windows.
Bryan Roper, responsible for the presentation of the Windows Ink Feature which will bring a richer drawing experience to Windows devices with touch input, was also the one responsible for the presentation of the Windows 10 Anniversary update at the Build conference. During this presentation he has shown us a video where we can see all the new features which are coming to the Windows notification center with this update in Summer. Surprisingly Microsoft seems so be planning a universal operating system which is not only working in the Microsoft ecosystem but also with other platforms like Android and iOS. For example notification on an Android will then we shown in the notification center of Windows 10. However, also Windows users are getting a reason for being excited.
Cortana in Windows 10 Anniversary Update
With Windows 10 Microsoft’s personal assistant has been implemented in the desktop operating system. While this was a reason for a few privacy concerns it has brought also a few new ways to communicate and navigate through the operating system. Currently you are able to dictate your personal assistant to open the Mail app and write an email for you or you ask here to remind you of something. However, the Anniversary update will bring a few other additional features for Cortana to make it easier and more obvious to use her. While Windows Hello was introduced with Windows 10 as well, it seems like Microsoft will not replace this feature but rather let Cortana support Windows Hello while logging you in to your PC and shutting it down.
Apart from Cortana there a few other stunning things which will be implemented in Windows 10. Currently Cortana will tell you if you have missed a call on your phone and allow you to respond with a text message, however as you can see in the video above it will then be also possible to directly cl back a person from your PC without the need to pick up your phone. Calendar notifications will be completely overhauled and displayed more clear.
If you decide or yourself, that an Android phone fits better in your pocket rather than a Windows powered phone you will get notifications from your phone on your PC though. So Microsoft is not only working an a universal operating system but rather wants to be the one solution on your PC and tablet for all customers, doesn’t matter whether they are coming from iOS, Android or Windows Mobile.
Have a look at the embed video above to see all the changes, or most of them which will come with the Anniversary Update aka Redstone 1. The update is said to be rolled out this summer, although we know from Windows 10 Mobile that Microsoft is not always on schedule when it comes to roll out new updates.
Feel free to drop me comment below with your opinion on this story and if you think that there are still missing any major features which you’d expect to come with the next big update for Windows. You might have heard that Gabriel Aul stated at Build that Microsoft will not focus on Windows 10 Mobile in 2016, however if you look closely at the video you will notice that some nice changes will not be rolled out for Windows 10, but also for Windows 10 Mobile.
