Microsoft is eagerly working on Windows 10 Mobile to make it the best mobile operating system from Microsoft yet. Therefor the company is releasing new builds of their mobile OS on a regular basis to Windows Insiders in order to be able to get some feedback on how stable versions are and what features are still buggy, where fixes are needed and which features are still missing at all. While I can say that Windows 10 Mobile is running great on my Lumia 930, I am on the Fast Ring, users of new devices with Windows 10 Mobile pre-installed are reporting stability issues, restarting devices and crashes.
To solve this problem Microsoft is not only working on their operating system itself but also on the firmware of their three new devices which are shipped with Windows 10 Mobile. The Microsoft Lumia 550, Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 Xl are the first devices to have this honor. Feedback on these devices has been very two-sided so far and that is most likely because of the buggy firmware of the devices than of the OS itself.
Today, 3rd of February, the company has released a new firmware version for the Lumia 950 and it’s bigger brother the Lumia 950 XL. If you own one of the two devices you will be able to receive the update in the upcoming days and weeks. That is on the one hand depending on whether you are using a branded or non branded device and on the other hand from which part of the world you are since the update will be rolled out in selected markets first and will then get broader availability. That actually pretty good, since the firmware of a phone is a very important part and if it is not stable enough Microsoft can stop rolling out the update before everyone has received it.
The updated firmware will bring you basically two things, performance and stability fixes and improvements requested by users. This update will bring version 01078.00038.16025.390xx you can head over to settings and check your version in the about tab in case you are not sure which version of the firmware you have currently installed. Here are the improvements and new features which Microsoft has listed on their support website:
