We’ve all been there.
Your alarm goes off in the morning, and getting up seems like the worst possibility to ever cross your mind. You struggle to sit up, and groggily switch off your alarm. The next thing you know, you wake up for the second time. Your mind starts racing, and you look at your phone, only to see that you are an hour late for work.
The fact that this situation exists presents a flaw in the current standardized alarm system. A quick loud noise may be sufficient for waking you up initially, but keeping the user awake is a problem that has yet to have been completely solved.
With that said, Microsoft have decided to take on this problem with a new app they are calling Mimicker. The goal of the new app is to not only wake you up in a calm and relaxing manner, but to keep you awake by requiring a set of simple challenges to be completed in order to mute your device. The games range from tongue twisters to face making and more, but the end goal of the activity is aimed towards making your brain respond to an input, which aids in keeping you awake for the day ahead.
Microsoft have gone ahead and outfitted the app with a beautiful material design interface, and have filled it with tons of useful features such as custom alarm tones, “mimics”, and vibration patterns.
I’m personally going to be testing out the app for the next few days, so I’ll give an update on this post when I have had sufficient time to review it.
Check it out here.
