According to Windows Central, the Microsoft Lumia 650 has been confirmed for a February 1st release. Since it’s not exactly a flagship device, Microsoft is planning to release the phone through a blog post, helping to fill in the gap to offer a low-tier option for more budget-centric users. Though Mobile World Congress happening later the same month, Microsoft is looking to keep a low profile at the event, which is traditionally saturated by high-end flagship Android Devices.
Though no official specs have been confirmed, the phone has been speculated to have:
- Windows 10 Mobile
- Colors: Matte White or Matte Black
- 5-inch 720p display
- Snapdragon 210 or 212 processor
- 1GB of RAM
- 8GB of storage with micro SD expansion
- 5MP front-facing camera; 8MP rear with LED flash
- No wireless charging (could change)
If these specifications are to be believed, it’s a nice refresh to Microsoft’s low-end lineup.
There have also been whispers of Lumia 750 and 850 releases, but rumor has it that Microsoft canceled the release of these devices back in July of 2015 to focus on their upcoming Surface Phone that should be debuting this fall. The talented designer Panos Panay is apparently making the device, so it should be just as solid and hopefully as popular as Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3. No word has come so far in terms of pricing, but hopefully we’ll find out more before the official February 1st announcement.
I’m personally really glad Microsoft still releases these type of devices, because they’re great for testing new builds of Windows 10 mobile. I have a Lumia 635, and while I don’t use it as my daily driver, it’s nice to have to test out new updates in the Windows ecosystem.
