If you’re the type of person who is constantly working in harsh conditions, it can often be difficult to keep your phone safe and secure. Over the past couple of years, manufacturers such as Motorola, Samsung, and others have begun producing “Rugged” devices, designed to withstand harsh conditions one might encounter in life.
Moving along with this trend, AT&T seems to be expanding their particular “Rugged” line of devices, and are adding the recently released Kyocera DuraForce XD and Dura XE.
AT&T says the “DuraForce XD is designed to withstand dust, shock, vibration, temperature extremes, blowing rain, low pressure/high altitude, solar radiation, salt fog, humidity and water immersion.” it features a 5.7″ touchscreen with a 1.6 GHz quad-core CPU and and a 3,700 mAh battery, which should hold up for a couple of days at the least.
The DuraXE is quite different, as it opts for a classic flip-style design. This particular device has Military Standard 810G protection for harsh conditions, and can supposedly survive up to 30 minutes in 6 feet of water.
How well these devices actually work is up to speculation, but based on the press release they seem pretty darn tough.
