With Microsoft’s pronouncement about the Windows Phone 10 update to all WP devices, all the WP and Nokia high tech aficionado, (Me too) were keyed up waiting for the release date. The Redmond Giant revealed earlier this year that the Windows Phone 10 update would start rolling out this fall 2015.
“Windows 10 is available on PCs and tablets now, and while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL ship with Windows 10 for phones, broad availability of Windows 10 on other devices, including mobile phones, will begin rolling out in December. For more information on Windows 10 for Lumia, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/en/mobile/windows10/.”
However, that is no longer the plan according to the company’s spokesperson unless you’re part of the Windows Insider Program. Concurring with the availability statement which was out couple of days back, the Over-the-air update (OTA) for existing WP devices is now going to fire up in early 2016 and still Microsoft has not given the update roadmap of devices that gets the WP10.
“This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones.”
Microsoft earlier distributed the “RTM” version of the WP10 which is, the build 10586 that got shipped on new Lumia 950 and 950 XL. There was a cumulative update (build 10586.29) that followed the build 10586 which was distributed to WP10 devices but MS briefly pulled that update event from its download servers due to installation Issues. MS is in the process of rolling out updates again to individuals with 950 and 950 XL handsets. This is how things are at the moment and also Microsoft needs to get better at this as this platform cannot afford any confusion that deals with Customer satisfaction.
