Following Microsoft’s announcement that Lumia devices sold just 5.8 million devices in quarter 3 2015, giving it a market share of less than 2% globally, it is interesting to see Kantar World Panel release their figures for the same three months, July August and September, which give Windows Phone a much more attractive share in key markets such as EU5 (UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain) where it claims 10.6% and Australia at 7.4%. Even USA market share has grown according to Kantar, to 3.9%, while China has grown to a more respectable 3%, a region where Microsoft’s smartphone platform normally gets about half of that.
It is even more surprising to see Windows Phone perform well in Kantar’s numbers considering it covers the launch of Apple’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. On top of that, new Lumia devices have been announced by Microsoft, something which may put off buyers who want to wait for newer handsets.
We will keep our eyes on Kantar’s monthly press releases, you can read their latest report HERE. You can also view and compare markets in the Dataviz below.
