Kantar World Panel have released their monthly review of the smartphone OS market share, which looks at the previous three months, start of April until end of June 2015 in this case. The overview shows a mixed performance from Microsoft with Windows Phone making a 1 percentage point increase in Europe year on year, now at 10%. Breaking Europe down, Windows grew 4.1 points in both Germany and Italy to 10.5% and 14.2% respectively, and up 0.6 in GB to 11.3%. France saw a 1.9 point drop to 8.7% while a 4.5 point decrease in Spain sees the OS with just 3.0% market share. This is the same market share as in the US which has grown 1.1 points year on year. Australia also sees year on year improvement for WP up 1.3 points to 6.4%. Microsoft’s hold in China however took a 0.7 point drop to just 0.5% but this is at least better than in Japan where it remains at zero per cent. Will the imminent release of Windows 10 Mobile make much of a difference to the figures?
Concerning other Operating System, Android reigns supreme in each territory, with iOS in second place everywhere covered in the report with the exception of Italy which still prefers Windows Phone. Apple’s iPhone has done well in Europe, growing in each of the five big nations that make up “EU5”.
