Gay social app Jack’d is finally on Windows Phone!

The gay community just got a little bigger with the release of the official Jack’d app on Windows Phone

Right on the heels of SCRUFF receiving a big update, Jack’d has now finally made its way to the Windows Phone platform. Sure it’s about 5 years after the app initially launched on iOS and Android, but hey better late than never!I initially reported back in November that the app was in fact in development, as confirmed by the company’s Twitter account, so I’m glad to see them sticking to their guns. As some of you may know, there aren’t many gay social apps on Windows Phone, and the ones that are there (with the exception of SCRUFF and now Jack’s) are sub-par at best. The gay community just doesn’t have many options when it comes to apps, which can be off-putting and steer someone away from the platform. I went on a rant a while back about how Microsoft should try to get these apps on board, especially Grindr, which is arguably the most popular gay social app.

Here’s the app description and feature list:

You’re more than a headless torso. Jack’d is the best way to make new friends, start a relationship or keep it casual with the most profile options, multiple pics and endless matching. Jack’d connects you to the hottest guys with key insights on who’s viewed your profile and other revealing stats. Find out who’s into you and download now!

– Match Finder
– 3 public pictures + 2 private pictures
– List View & Gallery View for profile listings
– Who’s Viewed You list
– Extended profile filtering
– Scene selection
– Favorites list & Followers list
– Unlimited picture & message exchanges

Jack’d also lets users see who has visited their profiles, something that comes as a premium on many other dating apps. Additionally, users can even search through different locations across the world for users in other areas, making it useful for those going on trips and looking to meet people in new cities.

I got a chance to play with the app a bit and was quite surprised to see that it comes with a completely new layout designed specifically for Windows Phone (it wasn’t just ported from the iOS/Android versions). The starting screen is a series of 6 tiles that all direct the user to different parts of the app, from the list(s) of guys, to your inbox, settings, and so-fourth. Navigation between views consists on carousels, and overall the app performs very smoothly. It even syncs up well with iOS and Android versions. The only things I found that could be worked on were the photo thumbnail/previews being awkwardly sized, profile information that’s cut off near the bottom, and there’s no option to logout, resorting to the user uninstalling and reinstalling the app. But these are fairly minor issues that can be addressed easily. Hopefully other features like profile pinning will come in future updates as well!

Since its inception, Jack’d has accumulated over 5 million users and has now opened itself up to even more on Microsoft’s growing platform. Who knows, maybe we’ll even see a universal Windows app somewhere down the line? And maybe this move will entice the guys over at Grindr to hop on board?

Download the app over at the Windows Phone Store and let us know what you think!
